Importing Firearms

To be able to import a firearm in Italy, even if for transit purposes only, is necessary to request a special authorization issued by this Consulate General.

The authorization is usually issued once the request and the payment of the consular fees have been accepted and processed.

 

TEMPORARY IMPORTATION FOR HUNTING PURPOSES

In order to obtain the Consular declaration that allows to temporary import a firearm for hunting purposes, it is necessary to lodge the following documentation:

  1. Firearm Registration Certificate issued by the NSW Police, Firearm Registry apostilled by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade
  2. Police Certificate issued from the Australian Federal Police apostilled by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade
  3. Copy of the driver licence
  4. Local hunting licence
  5. Copy of the Australian passport
  6. Payment of the Consular fee Art.66C

To lodge the request, you will need to book an appointment for “Consular Services”.

 

PERMANENT IMPORTATION

In order to permanently import firearms in Italy, you must contact the local Police office (Questura) of your place of residence. This office will be responsible for giving information on the documentation required to process the application.

 

TEMPORARY IMPORTATION FOR SPORTING EVENTS

In order to obtain the Consular declaration that allows to temporary import a firearm for contests and sporting events it is necessary to lodge the following documentation:

  1. Certificate of Police clearance issued by the NSW Police
  2. Official invitation from the FEDERAZIONE ITALIANA TIRO A VOLO / UNIONE ITALIANA TIRO A SEGNO with the dates of the competition and the description of the firearms to be imported.
  3. Copy of the driver licence
  4. Copy of the Australian passport
  5. Payment of the Consular fee Art.66C
