Marriage Banns – Marriage between Italian citizens

New South Wales residents registered in AIRE will need to apply at the Consulate for the pubblicazioni di matrimonio at least one month prior to the planned wedding date (see specific information below).

Temporary New South Wales residents NOT registered in AIRE will need to follow the same procedure indicated above must be followed. However, in this case, the Municipality where the applicants are resident in Italy will be the authority responsible for the pubblicazioni. Therefore a longer processing time for the finalization of the procedure is to be expected.

Both husband and wife to be must apply in person together via appointment only, (to book an appointment, please send an email to info.sydney@esteri.it specifying in the subject line “Appointment for Marriage in Italy”) carrying appropriate IDs in order to sign the request for the posting of marriage banns.

The Consulate will post the marriage banns on the Consulate notice board for 8 days. After this period the Consulate will issue a certificate stating that the posting of the banns has taken place and the documentation will be sent to the relevant Municipality in Italy.
