To register the birth of minor children born in Australia, this Office must receive:
- The registration form;
- The original birth certificate, issued by the “Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages“ certified by an apostille (issued by the “Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade”);
- The translation into Italian of the birth certificate by an official NAATI translator or done independently. If opting for an independent translation, please note that it must be fully accurate and conform to the original text. Should this Office find discrepancies compared to the English text or missing elements, all documentation will be returned to the applicant to be amended. Please note that the translation of the apostille is NOT required. The translation is NOT required to be certified by apostille.
- A photocopy of parents’ passport.
- if the parent (including adoptive) holds exclusively Italian citizenship at the time of the child’s birth:
- certificate of non-naturalization issued by the relevant foreign authorities, or
- copy of visa issued after the minor’s date of birth, or
- foreign citizenship renunciation statement issued by the relevant foreign authorities;
if an Italian parent (including adoptive) holds another citizenship at the time of the minor’s birth:
- historical certificate of residence to be requested to the Italian Municipality, stating that they resided in Italy for at least two consecutive years, after acquiring Italian citizenship and before the minor child’ birth or adoption;
if a grandparent holds – or must have possessed at the time of death – exclusively Italian citizenship at the time of the minor child’s birth:
- certificate of non-naturalization issued by the relevant foreign authorities, or
- copy of visa issued after the minor’s date of birth, or
- foreign citizenship renunciation statement issued by the relevant foreign authorities;
The above documents must be mailed to one of these addresses or handed in at the reception of this Consulate General.
