From SEPTEMBER 1st 2025 the declaration of citizenship acquisition can be submitted in person at the Consulate, without an appointment, every FRIDAY from 09:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The following documents will be required:
- The registration form;
- The original birth certificate, issued by the “Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages” certified by an apostille (issued by the “Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade”);
- The translation into Italian of the birth certificate by an official NAATI translator or done independently. If opting for an independent translation, please note that it must be fully accurate and an exact match to the original text. Should this Office find discrepancies compared to the English text or missing elements, all documentation will be returned to the applicant to be amended. Please note that the translation of the apostille is NOT required. The translation is NOT required to be certified by apostille;
- A photocopy of the the Italian parent’s Italian identity card or Italian passport and a photocopy of the foreign parent’s passport (if the parents are not both Italian).
