{"id":4442,"date":"2026-03-24T15:14:37","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T04:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conssydney.esteri.it\/?p=4442"},"modified":"2026-03-24T15:21:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T04:21:26","slug":"cittadinanza-per-discendenza-importanti-novita","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/conssydney.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dal_consolato\/2026\/03\/cittadinanza-per-discendenza-importanti-novita\/","title":{"rendered":"CITIZENSHIP BY DESCENT \u2013 IMPORTANT UPDATES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Law No. 11\/2026 provides that, <strong>starting from January 1<sup>st<\/sup> 2029<\/strong>, <strong>applications for recognition of Italian citizenship<\/strong> <strong>submitted by adults<\/strong> residing abroad will be <strong>received and processed by<\/strong> <strong>a dedicated Office established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) in Rome<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Until December 31<sup>st<\/sup> 2028<\/strong>, Diplomatic\/Consular offices may accept, pursuant to Article 10, paragraph 6, of Legislative Decree No. 71 of February 3, 2011, as amended by Law No. 11 of January 19, 2026, a limited number of applications for recognition of citizenship. Therefore, at present, it has become necessary for this Consulate General<strong> to suspend the possibility of making new appointments for the recognition of citizenship for ADULT applicants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE:<\/strong> <strong>The following are NOT subject to the new limitation<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>procedures for recognition of Italian citizenship iure sanguinis in favour of minors;<\/li>\n<li>all non-automatic acquisitions of Italian citizenship, such as naturalizations and grants by legal entitlement pursuant to Article 4, paragraph 1-bis, of Law No. 91 of February 5, 1992, and Article 1, paragraph 1-ter, of Decree-Law No. 36 of March 28, 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Law No. 11\/2026 provides that, starting from January 1st 2029, applications for recognition of Italian citizenship submitted by adults residing abroad will be received and processed by a dedicated Office established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) in Rome.
