Non – Australian Citizens

For the submission of documents issued by foreign, non-Australian authorities, the applicant must VERIFY WITH THE COMPETENT ITALIAN EMBASSY/CONSULATE THE FORMAL AND SUBSTANTIAL CORRECTNESS.

 

APPLICANT

  • Original birth certificate, where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Original marriage certificate (if applicable), where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Decree of Nisi of Certificate of divorce in original (in case of divorce), where required legalized and translated to Italian.

 

ANCESTOR

 OPTION 1: ITALIAN PARENT (INCLUDING ADOPTIVE PARENT) BORN IN ITALY

  • Photocopy of the full birth certificate issued by the Italian Municipality
  • Certificate of “non-naturalization” or certificate of “naturalization” issued by the competent office, in original, where required legalized and translatedto Italian;
  • Original marriage certificate (if not celebrated in Italy), where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Decree of divorce in original (in case of divorce), where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Original death certificate (if deceased), where required legalized and translated to Italian.

 

OPTION 2: ITALIAN PARENT (INCLUDING ADOPTIVE PARENT) BORN OVERSEAS (NOT IN ITALY) WHO HAS RESIDED IN ITALY FOR 2 CONSECUTIVE YEARS

  • Original birth certificate, where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Photocopy of the historical certificate of residence in Italy issued by the relevant Italian Municipality;
  • Certificate of “non-naturalization” or certificate of “naturalization” issued by the competent office, in original, where required legalized and translatedto Italian;
  • Original marriage certificate (if not celebrated in Italy), where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Decree of divorce in original (in case of divorce), where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Original death certificate (if deceased), where required legalized and translated to Italian.

 

OPTION 3: ITALIAN GRANDPARENT (ALSO ADOPTIVE) BORN IN ITALY

  • Photocopy of the full birth certificate issued by the Italian Municipality
  • Certificate of “non-naturalization” or certificate of “naturalization” issued by the competent office, in original, where required legalized and translatedto Italian;
  • Original marriage certificate (if not celebrated in Italy), where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Decree of divorce in original (in case of divorce), where required legalized and translated to Italian;
  • Original death certificate (if deceased), where required legalized and translated to Italian.

 

Translations must be carried out from the original language directly into Italian, translations into intermediate languages are not allowed.

This Consulate General can only certify translations made from English (the original language of issuance of the documents) into Italian. In the case of original languages other than English, the applicant must arrange for the translations to be certified/legalised by the competent authorities in the country that issued the original document.

All original documents will not be returned, but retained by the consulate for record-keeping.
